BIO
Child of the theater, Midwest native, Monica McSwain has danced, sung and acted her way into the hearts of Broadway, feature film, television and Disney audiences. In addition to her vast filmography credits, Monica keeps her passion for the theater close. You can see her starring as Kai Niambi/ “Baby Girl” in the acclaimed musical “Voices”.
Monica is a dance producer, choreographer and performing artist. Her credits include the honored position of dancing with legendary Michael Jackson (cast as the youngest of only three female dance trio). She has choreographed for celebrities such as “That’s So Raven!” sensation, Raven Symone and worked with “Ugly Betty’s” Vanessa Williams and more. As a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG/ AFTRA) and Actors Equity (AEA), Monica has led on Broadway, at The NY Lincoln Center Theater, in box office feature films (including Red Eye), starred in television drama and sitcoms (including on Prime-time, Showtime, Lifetime, Hallmark, Nickelodeon and Disney channels), in numerous musicals, and in over 50 national television commercials and campaigns (including Doritos, Crest, Toys R Us, McDonald’s, AT&T; on billboards and in magazines (including Teen, Ebony and Glamour). Monica’s work as a Choreographer and Dance Producer has commissioned her to produce concerts for dance companies, repertories for recording artists with labels such as RCA and GRP, as well as directing for runways, ballrooms and stages across the globe.
Monica McSwain has worked with Usher, Brandy, Director Wes Craven, Choreographer Hi-Hat and director Debbie Allen to name a few. Monica has been honored with numerous awards and full scholarships (which include The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater receiving full scholarship and appearing with their main company).
When she is not shooting, Monica shares her passion for the arts while teaching classes and workshops in acting & multiple dance styles including Hip hop, Ballet, Modern, Contemporary/Jazz, Stylized Ballroom and African styles, additionally, coaching competitive athletes and dancers to award winning status. Monica believes in balancing career with life; sharing her love for people daily and leading as Artistic Director of ThruGuiDANCE and serving on missions in the US and overseas in Africa.
